Coming Soon - Tuesdays in March 2012! Women's Self Defense How to get started in a Self Defense Program... The first thing you need to decide, is are you looking to develop REAL self defense skill? If you are, you should leave this area of the website and go back to click on getting started in Adult Karate. Our general beginner adult Karate program is the foundation of all of our Self Defense programs. The difference is, the general beginner Adult Karate program is ongoing and will help you develop skill in a way that it will stay with you for life. The shorter term programs are for people who can only give one or two hours of their life to learn how to defend themselves. This may be the correct solution for someone who needs something immediately, but does not have the time to allow themselves 2 hours per week to become confident in their ability to be in charge of their own personal safety. While we do provide the shorter term programs for the general public, we feel it is very important to emphasize that personal safety should be an on going process and it can be a very fun way to stay fit with the added benefit of learning to take care of yourself. If you live in the triangle area in North Carolina, you have a number of options available to you. Firsrt you must make the decision on what type of course best suits your life. First and foremost, I recommend that women take an on-going course for a minimum of 6 months, to understand that developing reflexive action takes time and practice. For more information on this type of program please click here (Adult Info)for more information. If on the other hand, you are unable to take anything other than a short "crash course", then you will find the information you need, below. If you are searching for an organization, please contact us. We do provide some courses to the community, pro-bono. If your organization has a budget, we ask that you let us know and we will work with your budget. Short courses Once or twice a year, you will find short crash courses in Women's Self Defense. These courses generally last 1 - 2 hours and include a very good basic skills course.
